Bulkhead

Get some wood from the skip and chop it into bits

IMAG0113

That thing on the front of my bench is a biscuit cutter – the clamp failed and the bit of wood shot across the front deck into my leg – it gave me quite a bruise!

Then lay it all out together

IMAG0115

Pop along to the inside workshop and glue it all together by torch light – then take a photo with the flash to see the whole thing together

IMAG0147

and wait.

This weekend I will trim off the bits that shouldn’t be there, sand it and then varnish it ready for fitting…..

John

We can't hold on to you for a second longer.
We have got to say goodbye
As our lives continue
You have gone away
There are no questions why.
We know.

You left us full of laughter,
You left us full of fun,
You left us with a smile
Oh brave; how brave,
How amazing!
Oh dear, loved, one.

I will miss your full of vigour
Your quiet words in the storm,
Your wise advice and tenderness
Your laughter, joking
Oh, John.  The fun.

You fought your battle bodly,
Showed us how it could be done,
In the face of agnoy
Pain so dreadful
You smiled, you carried on.

What, oh what a one.

Patrol Notice

In summer when I headed north I noticed a boat with a patrol notice.  When I headed south sometime later the boat was still there but several bits had been removed.  It is a sorry site, but I find myself wondering what the story is behind these boats and their patrol notices.  The notice that advertises so many things.P1020829

Oakfield re-visited

It was a long time ago that Oakfield arrived in the shire. Their boat was brand new and we were delighted to see them with their finished boat enjoying their new life on the waterways.  We had a great time.  Then they left to do what boaters do – explore the system.

Finally they have come back again. Aren’t they lovely!  It was wonderful walking down the towpath past their boat to mine.  It was lovely hearing about their travels and reminiscing of the crazy old times.  I was looking forward to many cups of tea over the following days but I was struck with disease and didn’t see nearly enough of them.

Now they have gone… I hope you have a fantastic journey and don’t leave it so long next time!
