Pooch

Well, the pooch is almost coming up to being resident aboard the good ship for a week, and seems to be settling into life aboard quite well. I am walking MILES each day and am exhausted but apparently it is doing me good (sigh). Until pooch learns his name I can't really let him off the lead, although I did have fun watching him run around like a mad march hare last night in an enclosed garden. I did practice calling his name periodically in an attempt to lure him back to me, but he ignored me! We have almost learnt to sit on command, we vaguely recognise our name, and I have almost convinced the new inhabitant of the good ship that I am the one in charge of DIY and he is not.

Despite having been savaged by dogs the pooch seems to be OK around other dogs.. but I suspect there may be a particular colour or breed he wont take a liking to. He has taken a liking to the pink bird though!

In other news, Annie's tea rooms in Thrupp open tomorrow and I am thoroughly looking forward to partaking of tea and cake all weekend!

What a lovely dog - so glad that you're having fun already. It's great when they can run free but it is a gradual process.
Sue
ps. We called by on Saturday when you were collecting your pooch - sorry to have missed you but probably for the best as our two would have given Boots a very vocal greeting - probably a bit too much for his first day!

Lucky dog! A very very small dog treat handed out every time he returns when called usually works. When he is consistent start phasing the treats out.

I was sorry to miss you too - I hope you will come past again sometime.

Lorna - he is slowly learning his name and I am slowly learning what treats he likes..he isn't terribly food motivated! slowly slowly.

Hi Bones

I do not know your experience with dogs but may I respectfully suggest you take him to a 'dog' training class.

Rather mis-named should be 'dog owners' training class

For instance calling his name is not a good command for him to return to you.

It can be any word you like other than his name.

Just one suggestion make his return a game, get his attention, give the command and then run away, repeating the command, bet he chases you, then lots of love and a treat.

If you are worried about him running off, take him to an enclosed space (garden), get someone to hold him and then release at the appropriate time.

PS. If you know this then just ignore me.

Molly says: "I want to play with Boots. If I could only get off this lead I'd show him how to REALLY run away."

Tellford says "I want to play with Boots, I think, but I'm scared"

Dear Boots - please say thank you to Bones for putting your photo on her blog. I think I'm in love with you! But then - I'm in love with everyone - humans included, although they can be a bit strange sometimes, I can't understand why some of them scream and run away when I run up to them wanting to play! I only want to jump up and love them, and share my lovely
muddy walk with them!!
Love Cassie

Hi Boots, my Mum thinks your lovely, and that's ok cos she thinks I am gorgeous. My name is Bobby, I'm a Scottish Terrier and live on board Tickety Boo with Mum and Dad. You will love life on the boat, I do. Not too keen on the wet stuff tho, been in a few times, find it tough on the little legs keeping myself above water! You won't have that problem with your long legs. Anyway maybe we will meet up one day and we can play, " let's cock our leg in the same place", and see who gets tired first! Be good for your Mum, it pays! Bobby x

Awwww Boots looks adorable. Paddy was savaged by a brindle staffie and he has never forgotten. If he sees a brindle staffie he hides behind me LOL. I am not sure what he expects me to do. We look forward to meeting Boots and maybe he and paddy will get a long just fine and be able to play together. Jo
