Sony Ericsson s500i

I have the above telephone and it goes straight to voice mail after 3 rings. There are no options for increasing the number of rings, and I have done a search and can't find out how to do it.

Do any of you know, and if so, could you enlighten me? It is driving me potty.

It's usually an option of the phone network rather than an option of the phone itself

Ms bones,

Hi, when I had a similar problem with my phone (not Sony) it was not a phone setting it was a network setting (vodaphone) I could change the time before going to voicemail to up to 30 seconds, so now I can quite a way through Enola Gay beofe ethe vm kicks in,

Enola Gay! Cool! I have Bach's D Minor Toccata and Fugue (not sure if it ever gets as far as the fugue) But I am stumped for a message alert. All the options are either horrid or shared by two dozen other people on the train.

Or just turn off voicemail completely. I object to having to pay to listen to messages I don't need (or my mother wittering on about something trivial), so mine's disabled - call back or send a text.
And the ringtone? Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy main theme.

i don't have to pay to retreive voice mail.

try this , go to main option Screen , settings , profile, choose the one you want to edit , i normally have mine on outdoors, its slightly louder. than more , and you will see view and edit, select, answering mode should be set to normal , divert calls , off , my sony on those settings rings for a fair while before going to answer phone. I am with T mobile , so it may be as some one pointed out your network provider.

On the ring tone topic, before I retired I had "Always look on the Bright Side."
My occupation - Coroner's Officer!

I found it tactful to put it on 'meeting' mode on occasions.

I think I will now use anonymous or a nom-de-plume for this comment.

I had to contact Orange (in my case)and they gave me a whole string of characters to enter into the phone and text to a certain number. Following this - the answerphone now cuts in after about 20 seconds which at least gives me a chance to answer it!

Hi Mort,
Yes it is a network function bit it is controllable from your handset: try looking for a section called "diverts" - "divert no answer". Failing that cust. svcs. will do it for you.
P.S. my ringtone is "Barwick Green" - The Archers theme. Never fails to get a chuckle!
