- Name: MortimerBones

Standing on the roof, with the wind in my hair, gulls cry I sigh, living it up here. The rain meanders along, soaking me to the bone, and ah, as I stand there... no longer alone.

How often does the canal freeze? Do they have to get them out every year? Saw a nice feature in a mag earlier this year about Victorian ice breakers.
BW didn't come specifically to break the ice - they were doing some work and needed to turn the boat around, so they broke ice up to the turning point and then went back again.
The canal froze quite heavily last year, but not as much as this, and before that I was on the river for a couple of years, before that it froze, but never for long and it wasn't as thick as now.
