Look what the fairies gave me:

Arctic cable 2.5mm2 and I shall run it down each side of the boat under the gunwhale. In no time at all the great ship Bones is going to be dragged forward a century.

Before you do and assuming you are going to use an inverter to boost your 12 volts to 220+, just check it is suitable for 220 volt operation and is twin & earth. Maffi will know.

Can you also send the chief fairy in my direction as I could do with some practical help of that nature down here.

  2. No, I am going to have a 12volt boat! Can't wait!!!! There is a small inverter out the back for emergencies, and it will remain out the back.

  3. well done fairies!

a note of caution though - I personally wouldn't use mains colour coded cable for 12v installations just to make things obvious - at least it's the safe way round (finding 12v if you're suspecting 240). I don't see it being allowed in prof electrical regs, but might be worth a quick call to Mr Paris on making sure it's kosher for BSC types. You mayu get away with it if fully labelled.

If it is frowned upon, I probably have enough black & red 2.5mm for you - let me know if needed?

  6. I like the voice of doom, but I think you should perhaps develop it a bit more with more hoots and some crackles?

  7. I'm not sure my voice is butch enough to make a living at it. My Pvt Fraser impression is pretty dismal, too. ;-)

I a not sure what the length of BONES is but you must think about the dreaded volt drop, even using 2.5mm/2 flex you may loose 4 or 5 volts with the resultant heat gain in the cable. I confess I am a "normal" sparky and no expert of marine/12 v systems, so ask an expert? Regards Clive (boater in waiting, any one have £50k to spare )
