chewing gum may work, but that would involve chewing gum which is a vulgar habit. A house is a good idea too - but it won't fit in the engine room, and may not pump the diesel around?
the real answer is remove (having first established exactly where the leak is) dismantle, inspect, clean, probably fit new gaskets or buy a new lift pump, reinstall, bleed engine...
...or just get someone else to do the above. The choice is yours.
