I looked up the towpath towards the wee weir and spotted some white on the path.
I wondered whether there had been some localised snow and went to investigate. I was rather surprised at what I found. Here are some pictures if the ice.
I have never seen anything like it before
Oooh amazing. Like ice crocuses.
ReplyDeleteWOW! I've not seen anything even close! Well spotted.
ReplyDeleteIncredible, I have no idea what would have caused them!
ReplyDeleteice rain not sure if thats the right term. a city in canada Vancouver i think experienced a version of this. maybe not though very pretty .
ReplyDeletefreezing rain. i always get thing nearly right
ReplyDeleteI'm a little concerned.
ReplyDeleteIt hadn't been rather windy that night, had it?
And the surrounding area was Munchkin, Tin Man, Lion and Scarecrow-free?
If you find you are wearing red shoes, then "I don't think we're in Oxford anymore, Boots...."
Beautiful photos!
:-)
I have seen something like it before, near a fountain on a freezing cold day. If you look the ice is in an arc next to the end of a boat and next to the weir. I think the boat has had his engine running and a slight spray from that has fallen on the grass and slowly built up around the blades of grass, and similarly next to the weir.
ReplyDeleteBut it is still very beautiful!
Sorry if I've spoiled the magic.

No engines running. The wind whistled accross the Cherwell and caused the weir spray to go back on itself. It was a freezing wind and the results are the pictures...
ReplyDeleteMore to follow after a day and then a cold night of it.
oooh, lovely! Ma Nature is quite an artist! I've never seen anything like it Bones. Thank you for sharing with us.
